Believe the Hype

Believe the hype,
Forget the ripe words of the sages.
For ages, there's been stages
Of knowledge taught, not power bought.
They're teaching us to hate and lie
And help another brother die.
For the glamour, the glory, the same old story
Of the rich taking more--no score,
But I guess they're winning,
Cause from the beginning
They got you believing the hype.

Believe the hype, hit the pipe,
Now your the type they created
To be disseminated into reality,
A fallacy that sparkles, that glitters.
It's the thrill, it's the hype,
It's your last dollar spent
To fit in where you might not belong.
Still the anger is strong,
But misdirected towards each other,
Now your brother is not the only one
Who's got you believing the hype.

Believe the hype
Try to wipe away the tears
Caused from fears, but they dry out
We cry out each night in our sleep
Still I weep, while you scream in my dream
That we're trapped in, collapse in a lie
That we're fed, comatose but not dead
While they burn another stripe
And extinguish our light
The collective, believing the hype.

Believe the hype
Try to swipe right on substance
The same dance of substance abuse
Each excuse more polite in expression
The lesson we teach is never ignite inner light
Where the public perceives status quo
Forces forego, let us grow, artificial glow
Why are we still believing the hype?
